Entrance to the Elephant Cave

Myself walking out the Goa Gajah cave 40 years ago. No part has changed this four decades.
The primary figure was once thought to be an elephant, hence the nickname Elephant Cave. Other sources state that it is named after the stone statue of the Hindu God Ganesh (characterised by having the head of an elephant) located inside of the temple.
But I was learned by the local people that the face of the entrance gate more a demon than an elephant head.

The photo was captured in November 1978 with a KONIKA T4 camera and a KODAK Ektachrome 50 ASA film, scanned with a NIKON CoolScan V ED.

    Ich war vor 32 Jahren zum ersten Mal an diesem Platz... Da war es noch sehr still und unaufgeregt...

      Die historischen Kulturstätten ändern sich in all den Jahrzehnten kaum, doch die Besucherzahl nahm rapide zu. Trotz all dem sollte jeder Besucher auf Bali diese Tempelanlage in sein Programm nehmen, auch wenn dort hunderte andere Touris tummeln (einschließlich unzähliger Affen - ich meine Makaken).
