The Douro Region is one of the most interesting tourist destinations in the northern part of Portugal. This region offers landscapes of exceptional beauty with the river Douro as protagonist, accompanied by prestigious wine cellars, historic forts, medieval stone houses and vineyards located in sloping territories.
The Douro is a strong river, with occasional waves, that characterizes this unique landscape. At its mouth is Porto, the second largest city in Portugal. Visiting the Port is indispensable if you are passing through this part of the country. Along its course you will find cozy towns and villages, which have always depended on the water, food and commerce that the Douro brings to them. Its heritage is filled with traditional 18th-century cellars, palatial villas, spectacular cathedrals, baroque churches and interesting avenues of modern style.
