  This event is the high-point of their civic week.
  It is traditional in small Scottish Border towns to have an annual riding - wherein people from the locality (those who keep horses), ride out, as a kind of peaceful posse - in this case riding several miles to the site of the nearby Flodden battlefield (1513) where Scotland fought England. There must have been about 200 riders.
  The town itself only has about 2,000 people.
