AstoriaScape No. 6 - Amtrak Crossing the Hell Gate Bridge
Viewing the stately form of the Hell Gate Bridge, as in this view from Astoria's East River shoreline,
one is immediately impressed by its imposing grandeur, especially that of the main span that soars
over the portion of the East River known as Hell Gate.
But that massive scale is revealed even more dramatically when a train is present. Here, a
Washington-bound Amtrak Northeast Regional train powered by a Siemens ACS-64 "Sprinter-Class"
high-speed electric locomotive, is about to enter the main span of the Hell Gate Bridge.
