Alpine view

Criticism and suggestions re processing requested.

Just after take-off from Munich, sunny winter morning with a touch of ground frost and fog. Munich in the foreground and the Bavarian Alps with the Zugspitze (2962m) beyond.

Problem: The original photo has a colour tinges due to the refraction of the sunlight on the aeroplane glass. I've uploaded the original (raw but reduced to 150Kb of course) without any processing, plus the same with tonal and colour correction so you can see this better.
My solution was to make it b&w and use a digital blue grad filter. What do you think of the results? Suggestions for doing this differently?

Nikon D70, Sigma 70-300mm zoom, 70 mm, f/10 -0.3, 1/400s

The "real view" isn`t nearly good like this picture, so far I know .

@Everyone, I'm pleased this shot and processing seem to go down so well as I hope to print it as part of a series. When I saw the original I didn't think I could save it. Kathryn

The cold tones in the backround from the mountains are great, I actually love the dark busy foreground, with the Fog and the smoke from the factory.
    has a wonderful atmosphere K

@Zoltán, thanks for your comprehensive feedback and ideas.
FIlters: I'm not sure filters would have helped here given the low angle of the sun from the left. From experience polarizing filters tend to increase this phenomenon through plane glass. However, I'll try one or a UV filter the next time I fly on this route. By then, the sun will be higher. Let's hope I'm lucky enough to get such good weather.
Postpro - I'm afraid I did not understand your suggestions other than what I already did.
In flight - this was a commercial flight with no influence over weather, route, etc. I managed to get a window seat on the correct side of the plane without the propellor or wing causing too much disturbance but I couldn't have got any closer to the window except for touching, which is not good. Time was also very limited as the pilot was doing a U turn from west to east.
I'll let you see the next shots when I manage to get them.

    Hi Kathryn,

I guess you could have a better version by applying some filters on the lens. I mean either a good polarizing filter or some UVs. The problem is that light diffuses on fine haze in the air, thus reflecting to all directions. A good polarizing filter might help - depending on the direction of the main light. It also helps the color vibrance.

Another solution might be in post processing, which I observe on your picture, eg. levels and contrast adjustment, either in RAW converter, or in other image editor. This version of enhancing usually degrades image quality, as you can see, more than you like...

You can combine the two solutions, and you can even play around with selectively applying the levels, contrast and colour balance adjustments in post processing, taking your time with experimenting... but saving a picture is only best done on the spot. As far as I know these places, I think you should choose a different type of weather for the perfect picture... meaning another ride with the plane.

Try to put the lens as close to the plane's window as possible, reducing the flare and reflection/refraction in the glass or plastic. I hope I could help, this picture is otherwise, and even with the haze is a well done one. I have no problem with your afterthoughts either.

    Greetings: Zoltán

You really do take good shots from a plane.
    best wishes from Lawson.

Hi Guys, thanks for your comments - I'm glad you liked the composition and the results of my processing.
Anyone got any tips for getting a colour version of the original?

I like the shot and composition, the chimneys definetly bring somethig to the shot. I will leave the techy stuff to the more experienced on FC.
