Aegean Sea

Greece
Aegean Sea
southest coast of island of Crete. The southest extention of Aegean Sea.

Aegean Sea is legendary with a historic origin that vanishes in 3000 years back. Mentioned in Homer's pages, has housed the glory of an early Cykladean, Minoan and Mycenian civilization(3000-1100 BC), has been crossed by the Argonaughts heroes seeking the golden fleece, by the Greek fleet on the way to conquer Troja and bring back the stolen Helen, has known Ulysse's heartbreaking adventures on his way back to Ithaca, has housed ferocious naval battles in the Ancient Greek Classical , Byzantine and recent Greek period eventually reaching a present state with a considerable number of beautiful islands offered for the bliss of uneventful and peaceful holidays.
Unfortunately, nowadays, Aegean Sea is becoming again famous for thousands of tragic refugees fleeing their war devastated countries and storming in Greece through Turkey and Aegean Sea most of them exploited and smuggled away under the worst and unsafest conditions and with small kids and even newly born babies in arms. The daily death toll is unbeleivable as many of these boats are deliberately sunk as they enter the Greek naval territory....A tragedy, unfortunately, destined to be perpetuated as Greece,in a state of collapse herself, is totally incapable of handling the problem...

In the photo part of the south coast of the island of Crete. The southest extention of Aegean Sea.
