Most comments here contribute valid points. Here's my summary:

Photography is a vast subject where there are many specialisms. Don't stress about what yours is for now but try all and don't keep repeating what you find easy. Sometimes what you find hard and challenging can reveal stuff you never thought before. Take risks. Always ask why and how.

What do you like, who's work do you admire, ask why? go and see their shows/exhibitions. Read journals, books, mags and watch films. But balance knowledge and enquiry with practice and observation. Do not compromise a photo opportunity with inconvenience to your comfort zone.

Know your camera but don't get too precious with it. To start with take it everywhere you go. It's always good to edit your thinking and review but sometimes don't think and edit. Your instinct can be your best asset. Basically be organic.

In todays world especially it is always good to be technically well versed and have the business savvy to put yourself out there (marketing). But first you need something to market - work with substance and you get this with knowledge, experience and vision. This will come in time and you can't rush experience/time:)

Technique is nothing without vision.

Learn your craft but also learn to see.
(You can look but you don't always see).

Hope this helps a little:)

If you are seriously interested in creative photography then you must have an eye of Artist first. Then build your portfolio and create your own website to market as I did...

Maturity is still very, very important. So don't be impatient if you are planning a career as a photograph.

Unfortunately, it would not be that easy to start with a photography business most especially if you do not have the proper contact people to help you land more jobs relating to it.

From being able to go with the right stuff, you just have to go with what you know is best. Try working for a firm for the mean time until you are able to build a good client list you can already deal with freelance.

if you have no experience at all is to get a diploma in photography first then decide in which alley/genre you want to go. Mine was industrial and aviation photography...many years ago.
good luck

In my opinion, be dedicated as a professional would require firstly very good skills, then some certification (normally because that give some security to the recruiters) a good list of photo examples (better if you have per themes), and the last one (pretty important from my point of view) experiences and contacts

Actually I don't have experience working as a photographer, but I really want! I just lack of practice, probably tomorrow will gather my friends for practicing. Besides as a student, it's crucial for me to have free time to work and maintain relationships with my family. That's why I prefer to use this service to get my homework done. It allows me to strike a balance between my academic responsibilities and personal life. It's been a great help in managing my workload efficientlyIn the end, it's all about finding the right match. Boudreau brings a winning mentality and a passion for the game, so wherever he ends up, you can bet it'll be exciting to watch. Let's just sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the ride.
