i'd advise a book as a good place to start- in conjunction with the programme to look at and fiddle with. some people advocate just headlong experimenting, but i found it a great help to plod through the basics with a book first...boring a bit, but you dont feel so overwhelmed when you get stuck with something..depends how you like to learn. I'm no expert - but if you get stuck - maybe i can help?

I have read books and also fiddled about myself with trial and error for years with most versions of photoshop but having recently started an adult education course on digital imaging using elements I have learned SO MANY THINGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! things that were sooooooooo simple and which also applied to photoshop and yet I had missed them ... because you find a way of doing something then stick to it but in photoshop there is usually many ways of achieving something - my way was usually the hardest way ... so I would suggest adult education classes because you cannot beat one to one or group demonstrations .... obviously this would be in addition to just getting stuck in and playing and also reading a book or two ... :0)

Usually on websites are not that useful as you would like
so books are better because of examples, and explaining each tool for you to learn. How I learned was a friend told me the basics what this tool does and that tool. The rest I learned myself experiment and do turtorials is the best way to learn. If you want to know a certain thing go to google and type in (photoshop fire tutorial eg) you'll learn quickly as long as your motivated & determined.

Best of luck
Sheri

At the bookstore find Adobe Photoshop "Classroom in a Book", it come with full instructions and a cd with lessons, before look and after look, so you can see what it should look like while you are doing the lesson.

One book I'd highly recommend is "the photoshop cs2 book for digital photographers" by Scott Kelby. I think there are also other versions of the book for previous versions of Photoshop.

Websites and forums can be useful if you have specific questions. Here are a couple of websites I've apparently found useful enough to bookmark.
