I don’t make photographs, I just take them

I’m interested in my fellow human beings, in life and whatever it has to over. To me photography is a mean to record what I’ve seen, felt or understood, but first of all it’s a mean to give the lads and lassies in front of my lens the opportunity to tell their story. It’s a way to focus all my intellectual, emotional and visual faculties but it is certainly no end in itself.

I came to photography – or did it happen that photography came to me? – at a time when you’d judge the negative without a densitometre, when you believed that the term “Photoshop” has reference to a shop where you’d actually buy a camera, when you drew a fine distinct line between photographs and pictures, when visual integrity deemed higher a goal than inventiveness, when the term “style” meant that you were at risk of repeating yourself, and when the compliment “technically perfect” was not a compliment but a devastating judgement.

A lot has changed since then but one thing has not: good photographs (and equally true) pictures are not very often to be found.
