Under the...Hot Tin Roof.

South Africa
Cape Town
"Tin City"

Just few miles away, in the outskirts of Cape Town, an immense fake city is installed with painted plank and tin walls and roofs housing thouands of peniless society outcasts, natives in majority, that in daybreak flee to the city in search for a temporary and casual occupation that could spare a dollar for them. Few remain in the tin city running morbid businesses trying to secure daily bare necessities. It's very difficult and not in the least advisable to visit this area unescorted as it is hardly controlled by the city police forces. The eternal day and night wish of these city tenants is to become able to replace , someday, the tin walls and roof of their houses with a real construction material. A wish that for the majority of them will remain unfulfilled!...
In the photo a view of the tin city.

from a photographic point of view is a great successful, a view very well detailed and very deep ..
but unfortunately it causes us a great consternation and an anger at his own helplessness.
    I wish I could scream ....
wicked men who have the power to change things, wake up your paralyzed consciences
    ciao Alexander...

Could well be Khayelitsha - Township, Capetown, with more than two million people living there.
There's a very fine book written by Steven Otter, a South African white who has gone there, rented a tin hut flat and lived there for two years, with the title "Khayelitsha, u mlungu in a township" Well worth to read and not alone what you would expect as a social critical work.
An interesting place but not one I would recommend to make experiences of at night.
    Nice weekend, Jost

The unimaginable misery of the myriads of poor people living here in this shanty town.... it really does beggar belief, especially in this day and age when there is such wealth abounding all around.
An excellent if very sad picture of how the other half have to live.

    :))
