Trans Am Totem

Trans Am Totem by Vancouver artist Marcus Bowcott and part of the Vancouver Biennale is a 10 meter high, 11,340 kilogram (33 foot, 25,000 pound) sculpture at Quebec St. and Milross Ave. It is composed of five real scrap cars stacked upon an old growth cedar tree. The artwork considers our consumer “out with the old, in with the new” culture in relation to the site, its history, and Vancouver’s evolving identity.

Eye-catcher! I'm with Mark B about the glue - not sure I'd want to be around it during high winds! ;-) Love the angle you chose and the way the image combines nature and industrial. Everything "works" in this image, including the way the cars are not only connected to each other and the tree but seem to be "connected" as well to the high rise. Add a perfect blue sky and it really pops.

Ein solches Foto hätte die alten Ureinwohner sicher sehr gefreut. Da hätten sie die Autos statt auf die Schippe mal auf den Totempfahl setzen dürfen.

Tu as bien choisi ton angle de tir. On dirait au premier coup d'oeil que les voitures sont imbriquées dans l'immeuble! Voilà en tout cas une sculpture originale et qui raconte bien l'Amérique du Nord. Je ne sais pas si elle serait autorisée chez nous. Peut-être que oui. Peut-être que non. Ça dépend peut-être du renom de l'artiste.
