The Sheltering Sky...

In Sahara desert

Early morning in desert may be a bliss to all senses. It is worth even missing breakfast for it!.. And you need not to be Bernardo Bertolucci to direct the "Sheltering Sky" nor to posess his skill in moving the camera in order to enjoy and capture some unique shots.
The most notable element is the light as it rises and diffuses at amazing speed being reflected only by the immense extent of sand whose coloration appears to be changing at any minute. Absolute silence is another striking element to enfold these changes in complete contrast of what happens, for example, in a forest at the same time that is flooded by sounds...In desert even a rising wind can be silent notable only by the swirl of the dunes....
It's really worth trying it....

wow, this is my favorite of the three shots! the dune looks both chunkily material and outlandishly otherworldly at the same time! my first thought was: you must have found the place where aerated chocolate is harvested on a grand scale! ; ) that dark edge of the dune, the ripples on the lighter top – together it looks strangely weightless – pillowy! – as though hovering just above ground… a landscape that could very well be on another planet, too! beautifully captured, bernardo… er… alexander! ; )) greetings, sabine. p.s.: the text that goes with it: captivating!

    Molto bella in ogni caso.
    ciao Alex

Deserts sometimes produce very strange and surreal landscapes. You captured some very interesting impressions in this foto series. Compliments, dear Alexander.

Reading your wonderful descripttion I feel that I am already ther Alexander. The light that you have captured as it shines on these dunes is beautiful, picking out the wave-like ripples and shapes.

    :))
