The Fungi world (324) : Oyster Mushroom

Fungi are rare in winter and spring, but they do exists, like this oyster mushroom which can often been found between february and april.

The fungus is attached directly to the tree on which it grows (a stem is mostly absent).
Its cap is variable in colour (white, grey, tan or dark brown) depending on the wood it is growing on.

This fungus is frequently used in Japanese and Chinese cookery as a delicacy.

German name : Austernseitling
Latin name : Pleurotus ostreatus
