Serotine Bat

Deep down in the cave of Remouchamps (see picture below), I spotted this striking Serotine Bat.

It’s a fairly large European bat with quite big ears and eyes.
This mammal likes to rest and hibernate in caves (or buildings) hanging upside down in small groups or individually.

To navigate fast and accurate and to help them find their preys in the dark, bats use a remarkable navigation system called echolocation, but contrary to popular misconception, bats are not blind, many species can actually see very well !

Dutch name : Laatvlieger
German name : Breitflügelfledermaus
Latin name : Eptesicus serotinus

Shot was made with a 850mm lens (500mm + 1,7x extender)
