Roman snail

A fascinating animal in many ways.

The head of the snail has two pairs of tentacles : the upper and larger pair contains the eyes and the lower pair is used to feel the ground in front and provides for the snail’s sense of smell.

The Roman snail is hermaphroditic, meaning that both female and male sexual organs are present in the same individual.
Mating takes several hours, sometimes even a day…….!

Dutch name : Wijngaardslak
German name : Weinbergschnecke
Latin name : Helix pomatia
