Ponte da Barca is a Portuguese village in Viana do Castelo District, North and sub-region of Minho-Lima, with about 2 300 inhabitants.
It is the seat of the eponymous municipality with 184.76 km ² of area and 12 061 inhabitants (2011), divided into 17 parishes. The county is bordered to the north by Arcos de Valdevez municipality, east Spain, south of Terras de Bouro and Vila Verde and west of Ponte de Lima.
It owes its name to the "boat" that was the connection between the two banks of the river Lima often pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostela, and the "bridge" built in the middle of the century. XIV that you will give the name of St. John of Ponte da Barca (1450).
