Greece
Aegean Sea
Dodecanese
Astipalea island

Astipalea belongs to the Dodecanese group of Aegean islands and has a long history being inhabited since the Neolithic era. Homer also refer to her. During the ages she has known many occupations from Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans and lately by Italians as the rest of the Dodecanese group till 1948 that finaly were rendered to the Greek state. The island is loaded with Byzantine relics, Old Byzantine Orthodox churches, Catholic churches, Venetian castles, Ottoman mosques all of them nicely coexisting and adding not only history but also beauty to the island.
Only people cannot coexist peacefuly and bring hatred and disaster to surface...

The photo is taken in the imposing castle, on the highest point of the island, built by the Venetians around the 14th century where among the ruins were also built Orthodox and Catholic churches perpetuating the complex history of the island...

You're right, the architectures of different civilizations coexist well, unfortunately, often this is not the case for men.
    Ciao, Emilio

Wunderschön in dieser Klarheit Dein Motiv und die historischen Bauten

Bright clear and and not so much done to it. I like the "natural way" more than anything else.
    warm regards, dear Alex,

magnificent ancient ruins, very nice also the modern, but do not go well together. Takes nothing from the great beauty of your photo-shooting, Alexander, it is perfect
    caro saluto, Adriana

I'm sure you know or you suspect quite well what he was doing there,Thomas.... In any way he was not at all in a hurry to come back to faithful Penelope!....Quite often poets idealize and "prettify" truth and Homer was among the best for that.....Thanks for your attention.

I love Homer. Tell us more about Odysseus. You are good at historic explanations. What was he doing on Clypso's island for 7 years before heading home to Penelope and his son? Your pictures always have a story to tell. Just like Homer : )
    Greetings, Thomas

Looking at your picture of the ancient castle and the Church so close to the old walls, it must be an amazing place to wonder round and soak up the history and beauty of it all.

    :))
