Padre Padrone...
The masterpiece of brothers Taviani.

North Greece, Prespes(near the borders with FYROM).
Prespes is one of the poorest but most picturesque regions of North Greece. The locals have always struggled as poor farmers or raising some cattle to meet daily needs and bare necessities. After the 70's local turism has started to develop and offer some new perspectives based on the beauty of the scenery with lakes.
Children in that region in the old days more ,are not, of course, excempted from the hard experiences their parents go through.Quite often and very early in the morning get from father...their marching orders to contribute in daily routine duties, one of which is the above in the photo, well away from study, books and school....

is this for real? to me the little scene – wash tub, people, goat on the rocks ; ) – looks as though subsequently photoshopped in… nevertheless, the image of the ruin and the three-dimensional effect of the composition are quite impressive! as always, i enjoyed reading the caption going with it! greetings, sabine.

hard to fathom how people still make a living in this stoney landscape and barren grounds .... your image and words tell a harsh story that leaves a lot of room for thought !!!
    greetings, Adele

Good detail in the derelict building and the interesting construction. Then the children tending the lone sheep

As is so often the case, the poor have to scratch about to make a living, and yet the beauty of where they live brings in the rich tourists to explore ....and perhaps exploit their beautiful land. It is so very sad that the children should be deprived of an education beause of the old ways that their parents are reluctant to give up.

A superb scene that well tells the story and plight of these people and their children.

    :))
