Long Train, Short Tunnel

It is late afternoon on a perfect early autumn day, as this Rhätische Bahn Regio-Express, headed in the direction of Chur, travels along the RhB’s scenic Albula Line, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Switzerland’s Canton Graubünden.

Moments earlier, it had crossed the impressive Landwasser Viadukt. Its passengers will be deprived of the wildromantisch landscapeonly briefly, as their carriages pass through the very short tunnel leading to the Schmittentobel Viadukt, which the locomotive is now crossing.

On the sunny slopes above the railway is the village of Schmitten.

This image is available in archival gallery prints and as a custom printed Photo Note Card.

what spectacular light!!! and what a great nostalgic and deliciously wistful feel to this shot! the sunkissed mountain pastures, the colorful trees, a shot from the magical "twilight times" between the seasons, with summer still lingering in the gentle light, saying a long good-bye, while winter is already sneaking in, sending his blue shadow down the hill to remind people that soon they will act under his authority again – unless they take the train down south, that is ; ))… greetings, sabine.
