Green Frog

Deep down hidden in the dark reed, I spotted this Green Frog (also known as Common water frog or Edible frog), a striking animal, capable of living both on land and in water.
With its long powerful hind legs, it is the fastest amphibian !
The placement of the large eyes allows the frog to see predators without moving the rest of its body.

Depending on its habitat region, it can be found in various colors : bronze, brown, and different shades of green.
Some very very rare individuals are even……. blue !

Dutch name : Middelste Groene kikker
German name : Teichfrosch
Latin name : Pelophylax kl. esculentus (previous Rana kl. esculenta)

Ich mag sie gerne, die grünen Teichfrösche!
Interessant die Lichtsituation und die Rückansicht und trotzdem mit einem lebendig wirkenden Auge!
Man meint, gleich hüpft er weg... :-)

i just love this shot, mark!!! it's not only "documenting the this animal's existence" – making us aware that it's beautiful and "there"! – but presenting it in a very poetic way! looking at it, i understand why he's a popular fairy-tale creature! the dark surroundings and his sad upturned look – very moving! it's a little as though he's got a soul, too ; ))! and this makes me think of kermit's melancholy song "it's not easy being green!" beautiful details in his thick and "bumpy" but also fragile-looking skin! greetings, sabine.
