Checking Her Train

It’s evening rush hour in the busy Grand Central/42nd St Station along the Lexington Avenue line
of the New York City Subway system as this MTA conductor carefully checks the length of her ten-car
train before closing the doors and notifying train operator it's safe to get underway.

The busy station serves the local and express trains of the 4, 5, and 6 lines (East Side IRT). It is also
the connection point, one level below for the perpendicular-running 7 line (*), connecting 34th St/Hudson Yards
with Flushing/Main St in Queens. Upstairs in Grand Central Terminal, passengers can also connect to the
commuter trains of the Metro North Railroad to points in New York and Connecticut.
