Castle Houtain-le-Val (Belgium)
The history of this castle goes back to the 13th century when there was a walled and fortified tower on this spot.
Over the centuries the tower was expanded with additional buildings and became a 'real' castle.
The castle underwent lot of alterations. The last major rebuilding took place in 1860.
At the end of World War II, the retreating German army tried to burn down the castle, but with the help of all villagers the fire could be put out quickly.
