Ganesha

It is still a highlight and a sensation when a holy Elephant comes to the villages. Elephants are holy in the Hinduism tradition and gods which are called Ganesha " the elephant-deity riding a mouse " has become one of the commonest mnemonics for anything associated with Hinduism. This not only suggests the importance of Ganesha, but also shows how popular and pervasive this deity is in the minds of the masses.

The proboscis of the Elephant is red painted. People who touch the proboscis and take some red colour and put it on there forehead will be fortunate by the gods and protected from all the evil bad in the world, freedom health and luck it will take so the people believe. Of course the Elephant riders will take some money for this. Riding on the Elephant will cost 10 Rupee for a small round. Elephants are rare nowadays in the region of Jharkhand as the rebels (former farmers) make the country site unsafe and almost all country areas are prohibited to visit. There is a natural animal resort near by Jamshedpur which is in war since 3 years for now. So people are really happy that Elephants come to the villagers.

Of course I also was very happy to meet Ganesha and touched him. More I was impressed to stay in front of such huge animal and believe me this is something different than visit Elephants in a zoo.
