Die Fischereiindustrie und der Tourismus sind die wichtigsten Wirtschaftszweige der Stadt. Die Fischfangflotte zählt über 300 Schiffe und ist eine der größten in Andalusien. Die feinsandigen Strände der im 18 Jahrhundert von katalanischen Fischern gegründeten Stadt haben eine Gesamtlänge von zwölf Kilometern.
