The Orange Peel Fungus has a brilliant and attractive orange, cup-shaped fruiting body that resembles discarded orange peels on the ground (hence its name).
Unlike orange peels, this fungus is edible, but this should be strongly advised against because the species is much too beautiful to be picked for the kitchen table…….
Dutch name : Grote Oranje Bekerzwam
German name : Orangeroter Becherling
Latin name : Aleuria aurantia
I really had no idea there are so many fungi species in the forest - I guess most of them can be spotted in Polish woods as well? And they are so diversified. Shame on me, I know. This one really loos like an orange peel. A fine picture. Bw, Viola
you show us things, we've never seen before! what a bizarrely beautiful fungus indeed! and it's english name makes perfect sense, too! ; )) beautifully photographed, mark! the soft light makes the velvety orange of the fungus stand out and shine! greetings, sabine.
Nature is the best artist and you do nature the best service possible to get people to understand the beauty and usefulness of its creations. Best wishes Renate
