Sarajevo - the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the Bosnian War (1992-1996), Serb forces and the Yugoslav People's Army besieged Sarajevo during the longest siege of a capital in the history of modern warfare.
About 10,000 were killed then. As a result, makeshift graveyards appear throughout Sarajevo ulilizing parks, sports fields and other open spaces.

A beautiful place with a tragic history - may it never get repeated. Very picturesque this streetscene and steep stairs - but I do see a graveyard at the top.

won't ever forget the shock i felt, when suddenly a terrible war broke out in europe and hit the town that only a few years earlier had hosted the 1984 winter olympics and made the world (and me! ; )) fall in love with their silly yodelling mascot – "sarrrrajevoooooo!" so good to see that peace has been restored!! a very beautiful shot of this scenic place with a very symbolic stairway to… a better future ; ))? hugs, sabine.
