Naturally versteh ich was meint er und geb ich ihm ein gut bakschisch.
Weil weiss ich er ist very poor und muss schlafen with the dogs outside auf boden neben ein temple in Patan und kalt auch in valley of Kathmandu in winter time.
Aber unfortunately gibt many rich tourists haben die immer ein fine excuse und ausred wenn geben kein gar nichts.
War ich da together mit mein distant relative Stan Mc Gregor from Scotland.
Actually Stan er war a fine guy aber geizig unheimlich.
Gibt er dies poor sick and old beggar kein einzig Rupee nicht.
Frag ich ihn: "Why you don't give this poor leper kein anything nicht, not even a single Paise ?"
Sagt Stan: "Weil muss ich support my poor sister."
Weiss ich aber dass Stan never und niemals ever did give any money to his sister, not a single Pence.
Sag ich ihm das. Und weisst was Stan did answer ohne zucken sein wimper?
Sagt er: "Wenn schon ich geb mein eigen schwester kein gar nichts warum dann ich soll geben something zu ein wildfremd mensch? !"
War ich completely perplex von dies ausred und weiss ich nicht soll weinen oder lachen.
Hoff ich schwer dass denkst nicht wie Stan Mc Gregor sondern willst help without kein ausred nicht the poor in the world.

Showing his hands mutilated by lepra he said: "Sir, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year"
Naturally I understood what he meaning and gave him a good bakschisch.
Because I know he is very poor and has to sleep outside with the dogs on the ground beside a temple in Patan.
And it's getting very cold in wintertime in the Valley of Kathmandu.
But unfortunately there are many rich tourists who always have an excuse for giving nothing.
I was together there with my distant relative Stan Mc Gregor from Scotland.
Actually Stan was a fine guy but unbelievable closefisted.
He didn't give anything to this poor old sick beggar, not a single Rupee.
I asked him: "Why you give this poor leper nothing, not even a single Paise ?"
Stan answered: "Because I have to support my poor sister."
But I did know that Stan never had given anything to his sister, not a single Pence.
I told him this.
Do you know what Stan answered me without batting an eye ?
He said: "When I don't give anything to my own sister why then I should give something to somebody totally unknown to me ?!"
I was completely perplexed by this excuse and didn't know whether I should cry or laugh.
I really hope that you don't think the same way as Stan Mc Gregor but will help the poor in this world without such excuses.
For instance with some donation to "Deutsch-Indisches Kinderhilfswerk", an institution doing great work already for 30 years now in South India and also supporting lepers there:

Some firecrackers less at Sylvester evening don't mean that there won't be still noise enough to rouse up all poor birds around.

Sehr beeindruckend, mein Freund!Es stimmt mich sehr traurig. Man kann wirklich froh sein, wie gut es uns doch geht.
Dieses Foto unterscheidet sich von den meisten anderen, die "Obdachlose" aus dem Hinterhalt fotografieren!
Du bist auf ihn zu gegangen und hast mit ihm gesprochen! Dazu gehört mehr als Mut...

When Achim was a child, he donated viel von his pocket money to poor African children, damit sie hatten to eat und konnten gehen to school. When first coming to London, he got the shock von sein Leben: Dicke Leute from Africa mit Brillianten an all of their fingers bought in the shops, none of us dared to enter. Not all Africans sind arm, I was told. But why the heck did I have to sacrifice my pocket money, while such people gehen einkaufen bei H...ds und C..tier? The situation has not changed, anyone kann es beobachten at Heathrow, Terminal 4, or at CDG in Paris. At H...ds, sie haben African robes for sale für 4000 Pounds! I'm going to donate for the good purpose, aber nicht ohne questioning the behaviour of such countries, leaving their poor and sick behind, obwohl sie haben viel money sogar für nuclear bombs!But thank you for showing this picture!

My mom told me, when she was in India in the seventies, there were so many poor people begging for money while they had to sit on the dirty streets day by day.And everyone wanted a rupee so there was no possibility to help everyone. Some day she didn't travel to India anymore (stewardess) because she could no longer take this poorness. It was everywhere while she was sitting in a 5-star-hotel near the shacks made of cardboard boxes. She said, in India she learned what absolute poorness really is, next to Africa.
And now my question to you:
Do you make differences between different beggars or
how do you deal with this poorness?
For sure it isnt easy, isnt it?

Yes, I was in Patan too and took some pictures there but not so many as in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu.
I wonder that we didn't meet. But maybe you were inkognito for some reason ;-)

@Achim L.:Dear Achim, you are completely right when writing about cold hearted rich people and politicians only caring for filling up their own pockets.
Even in the poorest countries you find some rich people, not willing to share anything with the poor.
But I don't want to follow their selfish way.

Yes, it's not always easy to deal with poverty in India.
Sometimes for me too like a pest when giving a baksheesh to one and then being approached and hassled by dozens and more in places like the ghats in Varanasi............sometimes I even had to run :-)
But after travelling already so long time in poor countries I can adjust to the situation knowing what to do and whom to support..
Embarrassed I feel for instance when getting approached by a miserable looking old person like this one and all my change has gone for others already.
But I also don't hesitate to let me show the money a beggar has got already, give him a higher amount and take the change in order to have supply again for others.
I know that in comparison to other travellers I spend quite a lot for the poor.
But in comparison for the expenses for flight tickets for example till it's affordable.
Surely ein thema I could write about much more when going in detail.
Especially if I would tell the stories coming to my mind when thinking about my experiences with all the different beggars I met.........sometimes even it's fun :-).

@BinYes, therein lies the problem - rich people in poor countries filling their own pockets. Believe me, I'm getting quite many letters from such countries in perfect English, in which civil servants tell me they have access to money from the world bank but are unable to spend it. They ask for faked invoices and promise to share the benefit. It's totally illegal and pure fraud, but that's the way they make money. Well known to the European polices, but nothing ever happens.
Yes, I do donate, but I've learned to look a second and a third time. I'm sending medicine to communities I know, but in many cases they have to pay import tax higher than the value of the goods. There are ways to avoid this, but it's not easy. And I don't keep my mouth shut. Thieves must be called thieves.

Das Bild tut weh, ich bin entsetzt. Warum gibt es solches Elend! Warum gehen Milliarden in die Rüstung ? Dieses Bild geht nach wie vor absolut unter die Haut!Stattdessen labern einige Contravoter vom schlechten Schnitt. Geradezu lachhaft...
Sind eh immer dieselben, die das Geschehen aktiv stören wollen. Meist gesichts- und profillose Wesen, die sich in ihrer Anonymität verstecken.
Wieder und wieder stelle ich fest, dass die FC absolut kein Indikator für gute Fotografie ist und je werden wird. Der größte Schund wird hier in den Himmel gelobt... Die Lobby ist es, ja, man muss die Lobby haben! Ohne Lobby und Buddylisten ist man hier ein Niemand. Für viele eine erschreckende Erkenntnis, was?
Ach, was rege ich mich auf?!?
Bin, die Galerie ist diesem Bild sicherlich nicht würdig. Ziehe Deinen Weg weiterhin so durch, bleib so, wie Du bist. Meine Unterstützung hast Du stets!!!

but the most of humans are thinking like stan!
here in germany it`s difficult to difference, but here are a lot of people, who maybe play with our compassion !
and very often you have seen, that they have a normally life! but you cant compare this life there like here in germany i think!
and especially when the christmas time is coming, i also have to think about all the people, who cant enjoy this time!
and i think also of all the "Heuchler"!
