What happened to Henri Mouhut when he saw the once jungle-swallowed Bayon the first time?
There are several more atmospheric Khmer sites of the Angkorian era all over the remote Cambodian countryside. But when it comes down to beauty and grace, the unbelievable Madhyadri with it's endless bas-reliefs and almost 200 up to 8m high stonefaces of wisdom is the jewel par excellence.

Among the guarding laterite faces of Bodhisattva Lokeshvara (some believe Jayavarman VII) a resting novice found his inner peace.

Ich habe im Bayon leider nicht diese tolle Position gefunden, der Mönch ist noch das i-Tüpfelchen...
