Die Region Auckland hat ca. 1,4 Millionen Einwohner. Auckland gilt vielen deshalb als die heimliche Hauptstadt Neuseelands. Die City Of Sails,
so benannt nach den fast 250.000 offiziell zugelassenen Segelbooten aller Klassen, bildet das wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum des Staates. Auckland ist die größte Stadt Polynesiens, und das macht sich z.B. auch im Stadtbild bemerkbar.
