Whooper Swans breed across northern subarctic Europe and Asia (from Iceland to Siberia).
It’s a very rare winter visitor in Belgium from november to march.
The name of this bird refers to the loud ‘whooping’ calls that it produces.
Dutch name : Wilde Zwaan
German name : Singschwan
Latin name : Cygnus cygnus
Location : Nature reserve ‘Noordelijk Eiland’ at Wintam (Belgium).
Beautiful one!!! I also saw them this year in the winter. landed on the lake while i was walking in the dark winter evening... Will post the picture for you...Greetings, vj
what beautiful creatures! i've never before seen them in the wild! love the gentleness in their expressive little faces and graceful glide through the water. and there's a shadow of a third swan showing on the flanks of swan in front – do swans have flanks? i'm not sure ; ))… –, which makes me suspect he was the one that took the picture ; ))… great shot as always, mark! greetings, sabine.
Sie sind äußerst selten bei uns. Ich persönlich habe noch keinen Singschwan gesehen. Umso mehr freue ich mich über Deine wunderbare Aufnahme.
Gruß Tina
Compliments, Mark ... great how you captured this moment when the shadow of the latter swan falls onto the body of the first one. the light is brilliant, the mood beautiful!!
greetings, Adele
Unusual couple. I have never seen them here. Lovely yellow of their beaks. And grace - but this is always the case with swans. Lovely shot. Rgds, Viola
