This guy I saw in Paris. He was passing me by. In a second I caught his eye and saw the despair and misery this person must have felt! I had to act quickly to take a picture of him.

To my mind, he himself represents death. That's what i like in photography - catching a moment, that what it should be.
Cheers, Maria

It's a very expressive and touching picture. At first sight I was startled and felt dismay.
I'm not sure if a photo like this, which is very personal should be in gallery voting. I don't know what his feelings would be if he knew about it.

Etienne Go , 29.12.2008 at 17:11h

press photo's are often also a capturing of a moment, so was it with this pictures as well. I do understand that the man in question here would not have appreciated me taking a picture, but I had to do it!

I think the background lady is essential. It's her relaxed and laid back presence that makes the proper contrast. Without her, there would be less drama in the pic. pro

Great shot, I disagree that you should not have taken the shot by a couple of the "critique" , but that's how you take great docu shots. A crop and a squaring up would help so I will skip this time... but no disrespect to you well seen..:))
