Taking such kind of pictures asks for utmost care, as a birds nest can be disturbed very easily when one approaches too close. Long tele lenses are therefore a must. In this case even the longest tele you had available simply was not enough. The bird allmost dissapears against the stone because of its colour.
@ Ruud: I totally agree. I am an ecologist and I am studying animal behaviour, therefore, I pay a lot attention to avoid causing disturbance. This nest was on the wall of some ruins inside a village. I stayed there for 15 minutes and the female kept on bringing food to the chicks. I did not have a tele lens, unfortunately. And I also complain that this sparrow has melted into the background. Thanks for your comment.
Sweet image, but the light is flat and the lack of deep rich shadows and measured but bright highlights is letting this image down. The nest has potential for textural crunch and dynamics and the pulled back composition, which I realize is the result of no tele available at that moment. On the post production end, perhaps some levels adjustments for contrast and a bit of color sat would create a little more wow.
