It's a lovely portrait. The subdued colors play well. One one hand, like Kaye, I'd like to see the other eye, but on another, I like the shyness of the hidden, which is very much a characteristic of this age. The space - hmmmm.....kind of was put off by it, but decided I like the space left around the subjects, kind of plays up the intimate relationship of the girl and her horsey as being one in the universe. It's really a very unusual take on a very classic subject matter. I like the casual, natural nature of the moment with studio style lighting - is it natural lighting or was there some intentional work to control the light? It's pretty darn good control and use of light if this was a total available lighting situation. Sharpness and depth of field seem very intentional. I never look at other pictures in a portfolio when a gallery submission is done to keep my thoughts on just the one image. This is the work of a sophisticated portrait artist. @Wen: It was taken on a sunday afternoon in October out with my family (I have three kids). The children were playing and running in a nice park of "Castle Nymphenburg" in Munich.There was only available light in front of (and in) some beautiful autumn hedges.
Here my daughter is just taking a short break during the childrens play (the horse was quiet new, because she got it the day before from her grandparents :O)).
The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and a tele 70-200mm (the grey one, if you know it?). Thanks a lot for your interest!
