The concept of the sky as a route to escape is used repeatedly by Ilya Kabakov. "Looking Up, Reading the Words" is a public project that was installed in 1997 for the 'Skulpture Projekts' in Münster, Germany. The sculpture resembles a 50 foot tall radio antenna. At the top, aerials protrude horizontally creating an oblong shape. The aerials form lines on notebook paper and there are words made from metal letters sandwiched between, with the sky used as a backdrop.
