Johannes Hevelius (January 28, 1611 – January 28, 1687) was a Protestant councilor and mayor of Gdansk. As an astronomer he gained a reputation as "the founder of lunar topography" and described ten new constellations, seven of which are still recognized by astronomers.(Wikipedia)
Ps. There is also quite a good beer here named after this great astronomer:)
Excellent picture and interesting information. There is a stack of detail catching my eye. But I especially love the beauty of the European architecture

Great black and white image and thank you for the interesting information ... an impressive sculpture and so nice the old architecture I miss here.
greetings, Adele
ad astra per aspera – goes for both beer and great astronomers, i think! ; )) a beautiful monochrome motif and shot, and interesting info to go with it, viola! love how there's all those different lines and angles in both the beautiful old half-timbered hostel and the statue of hevelius in front of it – thus, the great old son of the city will always be an organic part of it! greetings, sabine.
Pretty nice scene.
Great architecture and excellent use of the statue in the foreground.
Intersting information to read too.
Now then, let's drink a Hevelius beer. Cheers !
This is marvellous black and white photo! Well balanced. It was very interesting to read about the man, the monument of which we see in this picture. Thanks! Astronomy has been an amateur pastime Hevelius, and he lived at the expense of beer ;-))
Bell'omaggio dovuto a questo sindaco astronomo.
Excellent composition in B/N. May be you could'n't have the top of the roof ... Congratulations also for the text. ++++
Very well balanced photo, full of details. Your comment on it is also giving to us all the extra information that we need to know. Excellent presentantion!
