The Krugersdorp Game Reserve has large patches of very luscious thick green grass. These Red squirrels live there by their hundreds. They live on the thick succulent stems of the grass. They are very cute, but unfortunately that also leads to their downfall. They rush up to vehicles and often get fed and I would imagine also very often falls prey to those who want a cute little pet.
I hope you enjoy seeing them in the wild as much as we did
This is a great capture Deryck - you have superb detail as i think i can spot it is a female !!! - Cute pose you got here also. I cannot believe ppl are stupid enough to take them as pets - these are wild animals!
You are right, they differ very much from the Eurasian Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) which is a forrest animal. The South African Red Squirrel (Paraxerus palliatus) is a completely different animal which is on the critical list for endangered wild life. They live in burroughs in the ground. They just happen to share the same name because of their colour
I learn so much about the animals you show here, thank you!
Your beautiful images make sure that it really fun.
Today, something very little, love, beautiful ... thank you so much.....
have a great week
