Greece
Creta
Arkadi monastery in the region of Rethimno.
The monastery of Arcadi in Creta dates back to the 16th century and stands as a fine merge of Orthodox, Rainnessance and Baroque elements. At a later stage it was surrounded by a high wall becoming a strong fortress.
During the Cretan revolt against Ottoman occupation, in 1866, about a thousand Greeks warriors together with women and children sought refuge in the monastery but eventually, when any more resistence turned impossible, the leader priest blew up barrels of gun powder sacrificing themselves than surrender.
In the photo, the big icon of the Savior one of the oldest treasures of the church.

Great. I'd like to be there and see all the places you show with my own eyes. Sit in the corner and watch and ponder...

interesting post with the woman in the shot. the faded feet in prospective to the shot and the surgical second shot. You low it works , as in sensing something different that does not fit , but is truly artistically special. Like the concept of entering the "Twilight Zone". Top concept. You are the wizard of the Greek world. Inez should check your shot out. I think she too would see the spirituality within this art piece.

    Cheers

one gets transported into a past century by your image, Alexander ... the old architecture, frescos and icons are fantastic - and the person walking by brings one into the present !!!
    greetings, Adele

The one is steeped in the other. A well exposed scene with the ghostly figure passing by.

    :))
