Kithira is an island at the southest tip of Peloponese peninsula with an ancient history due to it's strategic position. Stronghold of the Byzantine empire for many centuries, it was conquered in 1204 by the Venetians that kept it till 1798 as one of their most important mercantile route. They also build many towns and imposing castles the biggest of them is in the capital Chora. The island has also many Byzantine chueches with frescoes and mosaics.
