I shot this, about a few weeks ago, when I had a beautiful day with my friend , dear Ingrid H ; her daughter-in-law, Lili; and one of my friends, Zahra.
Read more about Darius I, and The Achaemenid Empire in Wikipedia:
beautifully captured, sepideh! and such intricate and delicate art carved expertly into a rough rock (or hewn out of it?) – what great accomplished artist the people of those ancient times must have been! i checked out the links and read about darius, the great and the achaemenid empire! interesting stuff!! great, how in your picture of the relief you caught the light reflections on the rock (?)! they make the material look almost metallic and very costly – like silver – which adds even more shine and dignity to the mighty king's majestic appearance. love the details of his throne: amazing, how modern some of the parts look, the backrest, for example, and the lily in his hand – very beautiful indeed! hugs, sabine. p.s.: liked the letters of old persian a lot, too (in the wikipedia entry). think i never consciously encountered a writing like that before! and the carefully designed coin, the "gold daric" – wow, what a treasure! not only the purity of the gold but also the carefully worked-out little relief on it!
Salam Sepideh,
The Third King would surely never have thought that he once'll appear in such a perfect quality picture on the Internet.
