The brightly coloured Cardinal Beetle is mostly found on flowers and plants at the edges of woodland.
The vivid red of this beetle is a way to warn predators that it is toxic !
Dutch name : Zwartkopvuurkever
German name : Scharlachrote Feuerkäfer
Latin name : Pyrochroa coccinea
wow, what a creature!! and what a great shot of it!!! he looks strangely artificial, as though he's wearing a tight satin coat over his wings and the little connecting joint between his head and body! the combination of glittering scarlet with a kind of "felty" black – truly amazing!! greetings, sabine. p.s.: the way his back is catching the light – it's simply magical!!
amazingly beautiful image mark.
the usual incredible light and detail with fantastic vivid colours.
well done mark, your pictures are a delight.
regards, maurice.
