I was driving home on country roads one stormy day when this sight greeted my eyes! It is a purple martin bird sanctuary near Jonah, Texas. I have learned since that the owner has over 238 nests which the martins return to each year.

To me it looked like something from another planet!

Fascinating shot .... all these nests looking like big lights in a field for landing aircraft :-)))) Very effective in monochrome.
We too have a program to save the Purple Martins ... the nesting boxes are in every little harbour - but out of wood .
