Seen this Caterpillar in the backyard this afternoon...

s. sabine krause found the name for it :
The Buff-tip (Phalera bucephala) is a moth of the family Notodontidae.
This is the Caterpillar and after the transformation it becomes a Moth ..

beautiful!! i just did a little google research ; )) and i think i may have identified it for you – yay!! found a wikipedia sight in german that shows both the caterpillar and the moth which they call a "mondvogel". in english it's apparently called a "buff-tip". but i couldn't find an equally illustrative site… here's the link to the german site:
