I made several visits again to the conservatories of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium where 10.000 (!) plant and tree species originating from the tropics and the subtropics are growing in the greenhouses over there.
Thanks to the warm and moist climate in the conservatories and the intensive maintenance, it’s really amazing what an immense great variety of exotic flowers from all over the world can be seen there, even in the cold winter season !
Flowers whose natural habitat is situated in the rainforest, the mountain forest, isolated islands, deserts, etc……. Places that most of us will never or seldom visit.
Some of the flowers are very rare, extremely colourful or specially shaped.
Others were introduced in Europe by men and became a cultivated species or an ornamental houseplant.
I selected the –to my personal taste- most beautiful flowers I saw there during my last year visits and will show them here.
(I shall always give the official latin name, the country of origin and if it exists, also the English, Dutch and German name)
English name : Yellow hibiscus
Dutch name : Gele hibiscus
German name : Gelbe Eibisch
Hibiscus can be found in subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world, but this specific yellow species is native only to the isolated islands of Hawaii.
A big thanks to aline64 for the kindly nomination of this picture.
one look at this beautiful exotic blossom and i'm imagining hula, steel drums, giant breakers… a very beautiful species of hibiscus indeed – the rich red looks so vivid and bright against the pastel yellow of the petals! greetings and aloha ; )), sabine.
Lo conosco anche io questo fiore, ne ho diverse piante con fiori di colore dal rosa al viola, questo giallo è davvero particolare, molto bello il contrasto giallo /rosso.
Ciao Mark, buon fine settimana.
Botanisch erstklassig aufgenommen. Durch das diffuse Tageslicht ist dir eine perfekte Ausleuchtung gelungen. Die Farben wirken intensiv und plakativ. Die Blüte ist in der Tat anmutend schön. Klasse!
