Ready to dive

A common kestrel skimming the fields underneath for prey.

Due credit to Mark Billiau for his knowledgeable and friendly assistance.

All my apologies for the heavy cropping and ensuing poor sharpness of the final picture. My equipment lacks reach for such high-flying birds. I still have not found the legendary pot of gold at the foot of the rainbow to improve on that shortcoming

THANKS Mark for casting this into the right light. I was leaning that way...

I had originally identified it as a Common Kestrel and still use that name in the file pending clarification. Yet, after showing the shot to a friend I began having serious doubts about the ID although some details don't exactly fit in with my idea of what the Common Buzzard looks like. The shooting angle left doubts about the length of the tail relative to the rest of the body but the feather pattern on the underside is rather kestrel-like.

Hence the question mark in the caption.

I'd gladly welcome any more views on the matter.

    Very good flight shot.
Light, colours and sharpness are great.
However Marc, it's not a Buzzard but a Common Kestrel.

Ich finde die Schärfe hier sehr gut. Das Gefieder sieht wunderbar aus, auch die Belichtung ist gelungen. Eine schöne Flugaufnahme.
