It’s the first time I spotted a fungus growing so closely to the waterfront, with its feet nearly in the water.
The shot shows an old specimen of Russula turci, a fungus that grows mostly on clay soil.
It has a distinct smell of iodoform (a disinfectant that reminds of the typical ‘hospital air’).
For one reason or another, there exists no English name for this fungus.
Dutch name : Jodoformrussula
German name : Jodoform-Täubling
Latin name : Russula turci
…yearning for a boat to take it away to distant shores – a fungus with an outlandish, fanciful name and… an unquenchable a thirst for adventure! ; )) a great interesting find, mark – the closeness to water is remarkable indeed!! greetings, sabine.
maybe waterlevel has rised suddenly Mark, that's pretty close to the edge......
anyway, a well placed pic of this toadstool with great details !!
greetz,
It realy looks somewhat strange,
growing so close to the water edge.
But that makes it - once more - an
unusual and outstandig good picture.
Cheers - A.
A beautiful specimen - Very picturesque standing so close to this little pond with its reflections. A great capture, beautiful and technically perfect.
greetings, Adele
It looks like its getting ready to jump in the water as it lifts its ruffled skirt over its head. Another interesting shot that makes you think. BW ~ Linda
