Days of Steam - Princess Elizabeth - The Cumbrian Mountain Express 2008

A fine shot of the restored steam locomotive, 'Princess Elizabeth' on a steam special excursion in 2008, to Carlisle, from Crewe over Shap Summit, returning via the Settle to Carlisle line (in reverse!) A tribute to those who restored her and who now run and maintain her. A thoroughly enjoyable trip through breathtaking scenery.
A steam engine is the nearest mechanical equivalent of something 'alive', driven by fire in its belly, and having a temperament to match!
This is a treat for all steam enthusiasts!
Fur unsere Deutsche freunden, 'was fur einer dampfzug!'

Thanks Peter, and Brian. I do have more images, but that was the best one. I may put another on next week. Steam is coming back, you mark my words, as oil runs out, and hydrogen does not get established. But maybe we could have a Hydrogen steam machine. Come on you scientists! Give us some answers. In the meantime, let's dig out the coal Maggie said was not viable to power our new steam engines, until someone comes up with a better idea !

Nice Image, What I loved about photographing a steam loco was the smell and the atmosphere!
Anyway, I bet you have many more pictures of this fine engine please share them.

    Regards
    Brian

A fine locomotive. I never got to see one running in the original British Railways days, but have always found them majestic when I see one out on the main line.
    Cheers
