Rainbow Weir

The River Etherow was in spate after heavy rain. The water tumbling over the weir threw up spray, and the sun and spray produced this beautiful rainbow effect. I took several shots of it and at one point the rainbow's end was actually on the bridge in front of the weir. However, no matter how hard I looked, I could not find the pot of gold! I couldn't make my mind up which one to use, but I thought it would be interesting to show the power of the water coming over the weir. Not a beautiful landscape shot this, but a rare occasion when this phenomenon happens. The waters are stained brown with the peat from the moors, carried by the river, and the silt eroded from the banks.

Thanks for your comment Mike, I may put another shot of this phenomenon on in due course. It is one which is all the more impressive in its simplicity. It is the rainbow 'touching down' on the bridge. Watch this space. - Regards - Mike
