Still around the waterhole, I suddenly saw this large Water Monitor on its way through the sticky mud. He took no notice of the crocodiles and just headed his way to the water. Water monitors are very dangerous creatures too. They have very tough jaws and I remember from my childhood, how their tails were used as a dangerous weapon when they felt threatened

Never saw that before,very good camouflage, are his legs so green or is that just because it got wet??? fantastic shot,cathy

The green on his legs are actually from the slimy algae in the mud. Monitors are actually yellow and brown

ooh, look at his tongue! what a lean and powerful looking animal – just like a miniature version of the gigantic komodo dragon! great capture, as always, deryck! cathy is right: with the green muck on his legs and his yellowish brown skin he's perfectly camouflaged among the weeds and grasses of the waterhole bank! greetings, sabine.
