Soaking up the winter sun

In the height of the South African Winter, the animals tend to stand still for long periods just absorbing the sun unto their skins. It is said that the black and white stripes on the Zebra skin regulates the temperate of the animal very well. I have asked the zebras if this is true, but they are not telling.....
