A Moss, a Fungus, a Lichen ....

for Mark Billiau
who is the expert on anything Nature and whose images of forest, plants, fungi, birds etc. and his knowledgeable explanations always bring me great joy. Thank you, Mark!!!!

Salt Spring Island has a number of areas with very old and gnarly Garry Oaks - many have these dainty growths on them ..... and still dry leaves from the Fall. I liked what I saw, so I photographed it, looked high and low on the net, but cannot find a name for this. Sorry!

So you made a small plant to a big picture and it looks like a big hedge on a tree. That is a nice foto. We often don't care about such small things but they are often so nice.

    Best wishes Arnica

A great and fitting dedication to Mark. Of course there was no guessing whether he would know the species, but hey that's the beauty of FC. There is always someone who will know! Great job Adele

Excellent macro and composition! As for the lichen, it seems to me that Mark Billiau was right, your lichen look to me like "Oakmoss lichen" (Evernia prunastri).
    Keep at it,
    Thor
